Phase 3 Strike Force Mission
Desperate Transmission
Forces clash to send word of what they have found on Threnos. Intercepted communiques and clandestine observations point to a dangerous energy eminating from a forbidden lattice of unknown origin, and both sides are determined to control what reaches the wider sector.
Some seek to force the signal through before the truth is lost. Others are equally determined to silence the warning and bury what was discovered beneath the chaos of battle.
Battlefield Effect
In Phase 3, the surging energies of the Hazeroth Abyss cast shadows over every battlefield.
Abyssal Interference: At the start of each battle round, the player going second rolls a D6. On a 4+, no stratagems of any kind may be used for the entirety of the battle round. This can only be triggered once per game.
Mission Rules
Driving Attack: The Attacker has the first turn.
Send the Signal: At the start of each of the Attacker's Shooting phases, the Attacker can select one unit from their army that is not Battle-shocked and is eligible to shoot. That unit is tasked to send the signal and, until the end of the Attacker's turn, is not eligible to shoot or declare a charge.
At the end of the Defender's next turn, if that unit is within range of an objective marker the Attacker controls, the signal has been sent.
Victor Bonus
If the Attacker is the Victor: The unit from their Crusade army that sent the signal gains D3+3XP.
If the Defender is the Victor: They can select two units from their Crusade army to be Marked for Greatness (pg 281) after the battle.
Mission Objectives
Raise the Alarm
End Game Objective
Whatever has been uncovered on Threnos cannot be allowed to vanish into silence. Commanders must either force a message through the war zone or ensure that no warning, plea, or data-burst ever escapes the planet.
At the end of the battle, each player scores the number of VP shown in the table below depending on which battle round the Attacker sent the signal in.
| Battle Round Signal Was Sent | Attacker VP | Defender VP |
|---|---|---|
| 1-2 | 90 | 0 |
| 3 | 75 | 15 |
| 4 | 60 | 30 |
| 5 | 50 | 40 |
| Never | 0 | 90 |
Suggested Terrain Layouts
Terrain should first and foremost be thematic with an eye towards mission fairness. If players cannot agree on a terrain setup and/or are pressed for time, roll off and choose one of the suggested layouts below. Objectives are allowed to be in terrain if you use a suggested layout.
